I am, I can, I will!

Don't you just love this photo and slogan?

I am. I can. I will.

How inspirational!

I hope you copy and print this photo and post it in a place where you can view it every day.

I am all for affirmations, visuals and positive suggestions and quotes.  In fact, I am putting together an inspirational message board for myself. What is an inspirational message board? It's a poster board covered with photos, slogans and other things I love. I am going to mount it on the wall over my desk so I can see it every day. It will be a reminder of the things I want, the things I need, and what I wish to accomplish. I am a very visual person so if and when I get discouraged or experience a set-back, I can look at my board for encouragement and to stay focused.

I will share more about message boards at a later time and recommend you make one, too. In the meantime, I want to talk about something else:

 I am. I can. I will.

This is a powerful statement. Say it out loud, right now. Say it several times.

I am. I can. I will!

Do you feel better now? Do you feel empowered?

There is really something to the act of repeating positive statements such as this. Our attitude changes, even if it's only for a few minutes.

And then what?

Inspirations quotes and positive affirmations are wonderful but they are really nothing more than a bunch of nice words and catchy phrases.  They are useless if you don't believe them and put action behind them.

I am. I can. I will. Don't you want this to be more than just another cute little quote to add to your collection?

If you do, here's what I suggest:

Set some time aside over the next few days.  Take out a note book, a sheet of paper or what ever electronic device you use to record your goals, your dreams or your To Do list. I keep a journal for this purpose.

Ask yourself the following questions and then answer each one:

1.  What do you believe about yourself?

2.  What are your strengths?

3.  Do you recognize your strengths and focus on them?

3.  What are your weaknesses?

4.  Do you allow your perceived weaknesses to dominate your life?

You will never know who you are and what you can accomplish until you begin to understand and deal with your beliefs about yourself. Those beliefs are usually based on your perceived strengths and weaknesses.

Who are you?

We are what we believe we are.....So what do you believe about yourself?

Do you recognize your own strengths?

Everyone has strengths. Perhaps you are generous and give freely of your time or money. Or you love to make people laugh. Those are strengths. Write them down!

We all have weaknesses. Are you too sensitive? Do you fall in love too quickly or find that you are easily frustrated? Write it all down.

Do you focus on your weaknesses rather than your strengths? Can you see how you allow your weaknesses to dictate what you believe about yourself or what happens in your life? How can you change that? Can you take all your strengths and overcome your weaknesses?

Is your list of weaknesses longer than your strengths? I sincerely hope not, but if it is, then keep thinking. If you get stuck, ask the people closest to you about your strengths. You might want to get an idea of what they think your weaknesses are, too. Sometimes, we have difficulty being honest with ourselves. Talk with people you trust about your strengths and weaknesses. You might be surprised at what they tell you.

Now.....take all those weaknesses you wrote down and turn them into something positive.

For example:

"I fall in love too quickly" becomes a positive statement by changing it to: "I have so much love in my heart to give to the right person."

"I am shy around people I don't know" becomes something positive by changing it to: "I can totally be myself when I am with my closest friends."

"I feel inadequate because I didn't go to college" becomes: "I have plenty of life experiences that make me wise beyond my years."

Get the idea?

This self-evaluation process might take a few days. It might take a month. It doesn't matter.  Take the time you need to get it done.

This is the only way you can make "I am. I can. I will!" more than just another catchy phrase. This is how it becomes your reality.

another fantastic blog from you Cynthia
Yes, I always focus on my strength points but overlook my weakness but I guess those too should be taken care of.

I'll do as you suggested and looking forward to good results.
